Out Now!

The latest issue of Cartoon Network Action Pack (#39) is on the shelves, with a story described thusly, "The Secret Saturdays discover a strange and ancient relationship between a cryptid and an Italian village". It's a good one! And next month, in issue #40, "The Secret Saturdays get to the bottom of a mystery involving a strange species of cryptids called Flying Rods"... featuring the return of Piecemeal!

It is a good one! It'd make a great episode if the story could be strung out a little, making it creepier and more suspenseful until they discover the truth behind the cryptid.
Love Drew's last line =)

Ugh for once I completely missed this one. My comic retailer only gets one issue in on Wednesday and if I miss it I miss it. My subscription issue hasn't come either.

Lesson learned... keep track of what day it is, folks. @_@

Can't wait to read...

Waitaminute... double take...

Jay, you did the cover, correct?
Why is Zak using the Cryptipedia... backwards?

Also, I couldn't be happier with "Paris is Melting". I want to express my thanks to everyone who worked on that one. :) It was such a fun and feel good episode for me. lol. Can't wait to show you all how much I adore Epsilon's group. ;D

Great to see Miranda again, I've always wanted her to be used more in the series. And to learn that Abbey is her sister... lotta people, I think were wondering if they were related and if so, how. I think there were at least a couple people with Epsilon who haven't been seen before, I'd like to learn their names and more about their relationship to Epsilon and to the secret scientists. And Epsilon's "people" in general. Of course, it's also nice to see the return of the Mondays, and I liked evil Zak's reaction "that's what you call us?" Anyway, everything in the episode was pretty good, though one thing that bugs me a little is (and this is a fairly common occurrence in TV or movies, I think) how evil Drew says "That's my boy." The emphasis on "my" makes it sound like a direct reaction to good Drew using the same line, not something one would say in quite that way, as an independent statement... but it has to be independent, since she wouldn't have heard good Drew's line, obviously. *shrug* But maybe it's just me that gets a bit irked by such things. Otherwise, great ep. (Oh yeah, and when evil Zak asked "You know the worst thing about never seeing your family again?" he and I said "Nothing" at the same time. LOL- totally predictable, but still totally funny.)

I finally pre-ordered both SS DVD volumes and the King of Kumari Kandam book. I'm hoping I won't be disappointed with King of Kumari Kandam.

I thought Paris is Melting was OK.

Paris is Melting just became my new favorite episode!
As Janice on Friends would say: "Oh-my-Gawd!"

Wow...just wow!! How much more stuff could've been packed in there?? I absolutely love that the show continues to build on itself and seeing characters return. It's great to get to explore more of TSS world & characters every week.

I do hope the Mondays return. It would be a shame to never hear Argost and Komonday have a conversation =)

I agree, it would be cool to hear Argost and Komonday have a conversation.

Couple other things I meant to mention the other day, one, Komodo piloting that jet thing, even just for a few seconds, kinda reminded me of Anakin in The Phantom Menace. It surprised me, but I suppose if "Komonday" is some kind of genius, Komodo could be, too, even if he can't talk.

Also it's weird that the Saturdays don't share important information with their fellow secret scientists. If I were them, I would've mentioned things like the Mondays much sooner than this. And I definitely would've shared any information about progress in the hunt for Kur. After all, all the secret scientists have a stake in that, and they're all aware that the Saturdays have been working on it ever since the series premiere. Granted, Fisk might not want anyone outside the immediate family to know he's Lemurian, but that should have been cleared up once they found out Lemurians were the good guys. But if the others knew about Fisk, as well as about the Mondays, I don't think they'd have been so quick to blame him.

And if the final battle over Kur doesn't involve a whole bunch of secret scientists, I'll be kind of disappointed.

Thanks for the plug, Jay, and thanks for the kind remarks Dex. I have a lot of fun writing the comic, and there have been a few I thought might make good episodes of the show.

The one drawback of doing the comic book, is 8 pages is not a lot of room to run with.

Arg, I was going to try to get out to the store to check and see if I could get the issue but so far I haven't been able to. I'll maybe wait until 40 is out and try to catch both, then. Rods! I used to love those thing. They look a lot cuter with little eyes.

I wish you guys could have had a fully Sats comic line. That would at least be longer than 8 pages but the ones I read so far do pack a lot of fun into those 8 pages!

Keep up the fine work! :)

I kind of already posted my feelings on Paris is Melting elsewhere but I'll sum up again by saying: it was awesome! I keep getting on the edge of my seat for the coming episodes. And seeing the toys and stuff in stores around me.

I'm gonna go nuts when I see them sitting on the shelves finally.

RE:cover.

I was asked specifically to try and incorporate the Cryptipedia and Claw into these two covers to tie into the Mattel launch. The front of the CP is cooler looking (and more recognizable as the toy) than the back, so I drew it as if Zak had just finished looking up a cryptid and was about to pass it down to Fisk. Sorry if the final doesn't exactly read that way, but that was the general idea.

Jay,

Fred Tatasciore voiced Komodo Monday, correct? I thought it may have been Corey Burton at first, but I'm probably wrong.

Jay said...

Right, it's Fred doing Komodo Monday.

I think everyone involved would have loved to have seen the comic it's own 22-page monthly title, but apparently the page count has to do with how they are repackaged overseas (I for one would love to see the foreign edition of any of my comics work). We get around it a bit with the forthcoming story "The Lost King of Africa" which is told in 2 8-page installments in the same issue. The sixteen pages made a big difference as it allowed for a lot more action as well as allowing for the pages to breathe a bit. I love to see big panels 1-2 per page on occassion, but in 8-pages there is simply no way to do it.

When this issue comes out, be sure to write in and let DC know you'd like to see more stories told this way. I think there are still plenty of stories that can be done in 8, but I'm hoping we can do more with 16.

Dex1138 said...

I'll be sure to send my .02 to DC after that!
It'd be cool even if they would do 8 pages on going story but I know this is aimed at the younger crowd and they probably want the stories contained in each issue.
I also think the Sats would be perfectly suited for digest/manga sized comics similar to what they did with the Star Wars: Clone Wars adventures.

loved paris is melting. it's one of my favorite eppisodes now.oh,yeah,i have a question, why dosen't cartoon netork air the show on fridays anymore?

Agent Spectre said...

Jay, much thanks. And no, don't apologize, it does read that way, infact that's exactly what I thought. I'm just the picky type who doesn't reveal their thoughts right away because I'm looking for an honest answer. Plus I thought it was kind of funny. :D

Anyway, props to Rozum for the story, I really dug it too - one of my faves now. It was kind of ironic for me because I was just reading up on reports of cattle mutilation not too long ago...
I want a cacus! aww... She's beautiful. ::purr::

And I agree with Dex's last post 100%. It's a shame though. Sats really deserves it's own book.

Hyakuretsu-Ken said...

Well, at least the Sats are kind of getting their own exclusive books and that kind of stuff from Del Ray. I still enjoy the comics very much too now that I'm getting them. That's also great news to hear on the sixteen pages, Mr. Rozum.

I'm going to have to do that too like Dex! :)

Maybe enough people will get them interested in allowing you guys more pages devoted to TSS. I'm looking forward to seeing "The Lost King of Africa" now. Hopefully I can get my hands on the latest comic issue sooner or later, too. Spectre's making me interested. XD
